Myths About Hybrid Cars

If you are considering a hybrid vehicle, you may be hearing quite a bit of “gossip”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing on the market. Some people say it’ll just pass. Yet other people again say they think they can save a packet, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What’s the truth, and how do you separate fact from fiction with all of the stuff that is being said to you? Below, you can read and consider the usual hybrid car myths.

Hybrid cars are the same as electric cars: This is untrue because hybrid vehicles are fuel-powered most of the time. However they have what are called ‘battery assists’. The assist is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack that is rechargeable.

You are guaranteed to save money with a hybrid car: If you are doing town driving, you may save gas and you may not. The same goes for long-distance driving. There are so just many different factors involved. It has been said that if everyone bought a hybrid car, the fuel consumption would decrease by only 10%. That’s not a very big decline, now is it?

A hybrid cars battery can run out: A hybrid car battery should not run flat while you are actually driving it. The engine of a hybrid car does not idle when stopped (at a red light for example). What does it do instead then? It recharges its battery. So there’s no need to worry about a hybrid car stopping on that score.

The hybrid car’s rechargeable battery lasts only for two years: A hybrid car certainly would not be worth purchasing if this was the case. A hybrid car’s rechargeable batteries usually come with an eight-year warranty.

If I run out of gas, I can keep driving on the hybrid vehicle battery: Bear in mind, a hybrid car’s battery is an assist. That means that hybrid car’s still run on fuel. After you run out of gas, the battery may keep the car running for a little while. However, the car will stop running very soon.

Hybrid cars will soon put normal car dealers out of business: I’m sure that this won’t happen very soon. The reason for the delay has to do with the how much a hybrid cars cost. Most people just can’t afford one. Furthermore, people just aren’t too sure whether they will really save money by buying a hybrid car. Therefore, they are loathe to join the rush of people who want to own a hybrid car.

Hybrid cars will only save you about $88 a year: I did hear something on the news about this one day, but it may be untrue. If there’s something you really want though, and there’s a lot of smoke surrounding it, you simply have to start digging and do some of your own research. There are many different models of hybrid vehicle, and many different manufacturers make them. This means that there may be many more variables involved than the ones discussed here. A hybrid car may help you, and it may not, but the final decision is all yours.

So, don’t worry too much about what people say. Do your own research and make up your own mind. Use the Internet to get information. The manufacturer’s advertising is also useful, if you stick to reading the facts and gloss over the hype. Check that what the literature claims is also in the guarantee.

Auto Rental Has Lots Of Advantages Over Public Transport.

The only time you should choose to use public transportation like buses and cabs over a Auto Hire is if you only have to go a few blocks and you do not have a lot of luggage with you. While going a short ways would make sense in a cab or bus, going a long ways makes better sense while driving your own rental car.

When you plan to travel to a destination that is a good ways from where you live or where you are at the moment, you may wonder what would be the cheapest way to go. While some routes are the cheapest going by bus, you might also want to consider the thought of riding that far with a group of people that you do not know.

One great reason to choose Car Hire over public transportation is if you have children riding along with you. In this case, you may want to rent a mini van so everyone riding can experience comfort for a long trip. With a mini van, you can have a lot of room for your baggage. You can also have amenities such as DVD screens for the children to have something to keep them occupied with.

When you are travelling with a small child, you are going to need a car seat. This is a law in most countries. The best way to go is through a rental car service because you can also get a car seat. This will keep you from having to lug along your own from home. You may not be able to use a car seat on a bus or other kind of public transportation.

Driving your own rental car means that you will be able to stop whenever you feel like it. You will need to make frequent stops if you have children with you. This is simply not going to happen while riding a bus to anywhere. Rest area stops are a necessity that can not wait with children and you do not want them to have to use one that is on a bus either.

Being as comfortable as you can be while riding a long ways is going to determine how you feel once you do reach your destination. You need to be able to stop and stretch whenever you need to. On a bus ride, this is not possible either. The bus stops at certain points to give everyone a break at the same time. Not everyone always needs a break at the same time.

Going on a long trip always includes a fair amount of sight seeing. Many times you will see something while driving and will want to go back and get pictures. You can only do this if you are driving your own rental car and not a bus. You might want to hang around for awhile at some places and that can only happen if you have your own car.

If you are planning a trip any time soon, then you should also plan on car hire for the transportation to whatever destination you are planning to go to. You will have a much more enjoyable trip when you are comfortable and can stop any time you want.

Traveling is awesome. It broadens your heart, mind and soul. There is no other way for you to feast on the sounds, colors, cultures, food, and folk found in this great wide world of ours. Whether travelling by foot, train, air or car, you are in for a rare adventure. Sometimes, there may be a special vehicle that you wish to accompany you in your international travel. Obviously, this is a cause for additional planning on your part. Now, you have to have travel plans for your vehicle as well yourself.

Vehicle Shipment

This is one venture that you should not undertake on your own. International shipping companies are there for your assistance. By all means, find an experienced and reputable one.

Allowing the company 7 to– days to complete the trip on their W-E runs can make the time frames quicker on specific routes, but a majority of time it takes approximately 20 to 30 days for shipping. Planning enough time for the company to ship your vehicle overseas is needed. International shipping companies will let you plan up to two months before departure however the carrier will need about two weeks in advance for the shipment. If one needs the vehicle in advance companies will work on an individual basis with priority. You are normally scheduled to pick up your vehicle within 2 or 3 days. If your destination is inaccessible to you the shipping company will ask the driver to get as close as possible to your desired location, and if you are not available to pick up your vehicle it may have to go to a terminal for you to get it, but having an alternative part or family member to pick and sign the car for you is also a good idea.

Again, for a price, you can ask for a different time frame or delivery and they will try to accommodate your schedule. The price will vary depending on individual scheduling circumstances. The size and weight of the vehicle is the determining factor in calculating the rate. You are allowed to either prepay or pay an agent at the destination country. Most companies will accept personal checks, money orders, cashier’s checks or major credit cards. An absolute must for the shippers’ convenience is that your gas tank be as low as possible when shipping your vehicle overseas.

Some customers ask, since the car is going international, if they can pack personal belongings in the car. However, the Department of Transportation has ruled, as of’98, that you may not leave or pack any items in your vehicle. All trucks are occasionally checked for items within the vehicles, and have the right to dispose of them. Household items and personal belongings are not allowed in vehicles, whether it is international or domestic. Your items are also not covered by carriers insurance so the risk of loading all your belongings in your vehicle isn’t a good idea. Also any damage that is made by the goods or items stuffed in your car is not covered. If items are loaded into the vehicles it adds more weight to your car; which can affect the international shipping carrier and their trucks. It can damage the loading and unloading of your vehicle causing harm to the suspension of your car.

Hybrid Cars vs. Plug-in Hybrid Cars

August 6, 2009 by Owen Jones

Hybrid cars are on everyone’s minds these days. $20, $30, $40 or even $50 for a tank of gas? Who in their right mind really wants to pay that sort of money? But, frustrated, the petrol consumer sighs, but pays up. However, hybrid vehicles are being applauded for the little amount of gas they need to operate, and they are flying off the lots of car dealerships each and everyday in ever increasing numbers.

But what about a plug-in hybrid? Most consumers have heard that these cars are great too. So, someone might be asking him or herself, what exactly a plug-in hybrid is? How do they work, and what the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid is?

Plug-in hybrids are able to run just on batteries, but they use fuel also. These kinds of hybrid cars share some of the characteristics of hybrid vehicles. They are also are very similar to electric vehicles.

Plug-in hybrid cars need to be recharged externally by connecting a plug to an electrical power source. The combustion engine in plug-in hybrid vehicles is engaged only as a back up. These cars can run only on batteries if desired, but it is expected that these types of hybrid cars be plugged in every day.

Hybrid cars can go just as many miles as a conventional car. Designed to go the extra mile where gas-mileage is concerned, hybrids can be driven on the motorway, in cities, or wherever else anybody needs to go.

On the other hand, plug-in hybrids are designed to be driven commuter-type distances, meaning about twenty to sixty miles between destinations. This way, the plug-in hybrid does not have to use its back up combustion engine, but plug-in hybrids can go further using fuel too.

Hybrids help to reduce pollution, but they do still pollute the atmosphere. Compared with plug-in hybrids, hybrid cars still have a long way to go as far as pollution is concerned. Because plug-in hybrid cars can run solely on their battery power, they don’t have to emit waste fuel emissions at all.

Plug-in hybrids actually do cut total greenhouse gas emissions and plug-in hybrids use virtually no oil at all, imported or not. Studies have shown that electric hybrids emit at least 67% less greenhouse gases than diesel cars. Since the product used to power plug-in hybrids is completely renewable, the difference in greenhouse gas emissions may be even greater than the study showed.

And so there you have it. Those are the main differences between plug-in hybrids and regular hybrid cars. It makes a big difference, but you would be surprised how little that matters at the current moment. And that’s only because plug-in hybrids are not being sold to consumers at this present time. But this article should get you excited about the wonderful plug-in hybrid car, coming soon to a dealership near you.

And it’s going to be a spectacular debut too, since people already like the regular hybrid car models, but they haven’t seen anything yet until they see the new plug-in hybrid cars. However, for now, maybe we should just be satisfied with what we already have, because who knows? Before plug-in hybrid cars are brought out onto the forecourts, something even better might be introduced onto the market.

The Difference Between A Yukon And A Denali

April 8, 2009 by Tony Johnson

Gms version of the suv comes in a couple different varieties, like the yukon and denali. The yukon is just a really fancy tahoe. So the yukon xl would be the fancy suburban. And to top it off, you got the denali which is the fanciest of them all.

With the yukon xl, you got a couple of choices in models, from the half ton 1500 to the 3/4 ton 2500. The denalis get front row bucket seats standard, and there are optional for the yukons. The second row also has the option for bucket seats instead of a bench. And the third row gets a bench in the yukon xls and denalis, but is optional in the regular yukon.

The powerful v8 engine comes standard in all models, but varies a little in each. The yukon gets the 4.8l engine standard which pumps out 285 hp. The yukon xl will get the 5.3l engine standard and that cranks out 295 hp. The standard engine for the denali is the 6.0l, which has an impressive 335 hp. The yukon xl gets a 6.0l engine with the option to go with the 8.1l engine.

Everyone one of these models will come with automatic transmissions setup with GM’s tow haul mode. Of course you get all wheel drive included with the denali. With the yukon you can get either gms autotrac 4 wheel drive or rear wheel drive. The 2500 yukon xls that have 2wd get traction control.

You get antilock brakes and a tire pressue monitor on all these models, which comes in handy. In the ‘05 models, gm started putting their stabilitrak system in all the yukon 1500 and denali models. Denalis get front side airbags standard, but are optional otherwise. A cool option for the 2500 xls is gms quadrasteer, which helps in turning circles at low speed and towing at high speeds.

The wheels that come standard on the yukon are 16 inch alloy, with the option to go with 17 inch. The 17 inch wheels of course come standard on the denalis. You will also have the option on the denalis to go with 20 inch wheels. Onstar is built in and included on all models.

The fancier denali models get standard a multizone climate system and adjustable pedals. If you want, you can get these on the yukon as an optional. Another option available for any of these models is a touch screen navigation system.

The time is coming for some new models, and that leaves us curious as to what improvements might be made to things like the rear suspension. Something like that might help handling and also help include a thrid row seat that folds down. And of course, with everybody going green, look for some improvements in the hybrid area as well.
