London offers some of the best shopping in the world. But how do you make the most of it in a short space of time?
Assuming you’ve only got a few precious days to spend in London: isn’t it sensible to visit the city’s famous department stores, to find everything in one place?
Here’s an insider’s guide to the best stores in London where you’re guaranteed to have a great time:
Harrods
Everybody knows Harrods! It’s like being a kid in a toyshop where you can happily lose yourself for many hours. The Food Hall is a special favourite – you can taste a proper Italian “gelato” if you deserve a proper treat. Although Harrods can be pricey it’s a bundle of fun, even just for window-shopping!
Liberty
Liberty is well-known for dressmaking but is in fact a general department store. It’s not particularly well-organised as a store but that is also why it’s so charming. The homewares department is a highlight. This store is in the heart of London near Regent Street.
Selfridges
Selfridges is heaven for the fashionistas and anyone who wants to see all their favourite designers under one roof. The window displays on Oxford Street are always special. Selfridges is also well-known for special events (they change each season). Watch out for the amazing Selfridges sales.
Harvey Nichols
This store is a favourite haunt of London’s upscale “Sloane Rangers” or “ladies who lunch”…you might catch sight of them with their fancy accessories in the Cafe on the 5th Floor! Harvey Nichols has almost-0 years of history. It is especially highly-regarded for beauty items and accessories.
Fortnum & Mason
One of the top stores in London for souvenirs, especially food treats like teas (hundreds of varieties), chocolate and classic English preserves. Sample some mouthwatering temptations (including traditional breakfasts) inside the store’s restaurants. Fortnum & Mason is famous for its amazing hampers: you can take one with you to one of the great Royal Parks!
